
Reports emerged yesterday that Mohanlal will appear in a guest role in Khalifa, directed by Vysakh with Prithviraj in the lead. Mohanlal will play the character Mambarakkal Ahmed Ali, who is the grandfather of Prithviraj’s character. Now, Mohanlal has officially announced the news through a Facebook post. He also hinted that Khalifa will have a sequel in which Ahmed Ali will be the main character.
According to industry sources, both Mammootty and Mohanlal were considered for the role at the initial stage. Director Vysakh has a history of delivering blockbusters with both actors- Pokkiriraja with Mammootty and Pulimurugan with Mohanlal. Khalifa is expected to hit theatres during next year’s Onam season. The first filming schedule, in which Prithviraj appears as a gold trader named Aamir Ali, has already wrapped up in London.
Khalifa also marks the reunion of Vysakh and Prithviraj after 15 years. Another highlight is that Mohanlal is teaming up with Vysakh again after Monster. The film is written by Jinu Abraham. It is produced by Jinu Abraham and Suraj Kumar under the banner of Jinu Abraham Innovation. Jomon T. John handles cinematography, Jakes Bejoy composes the music, and Chaman Chacko is the editor. Yannick Ben is the action choreographer.
