Renowned film director and producer Aleppey Ashraf has opened up about the final days of actress Sukumari. Ashraf also spoke about the insults that Sukumari had to hear despite being a staunch believer in God.
"While Priyadarshan and Lissy were in a relationship, Priyan wanted Lissy to move to a much safer place. Thus, Lissy started living in the house of Sukumari Chechi. As chechi did not have any daughters, she took care of Lissy as her own daughter. However, many people insulted her for that. Some even called her a pimp on channels. Those people should know one thing. Sukumari chechi had expressed only one wish when she was lying on her deathbed in the ICU. She wanted to see Lissy one last time. Sukumari chechi proved that a person can become a mother not only by giving birth but also through love," Ashraf said.
"Sukumari chechi was a staunch believer in God. She woke up late on the day she met with the accident. Her son Suresh went out after making the necessary arrangements for her to pray in the puja room. She wore a polyester nighty that day. The fire spread from the lamp to her clothes. However, she didn't realize it soon. By the time she felt the heat, the flames had intensified. Her condition worsened upon reaching the hospital and she was shifted to the ICU," he said.
"No one was allowed to visit Sukumari chechi in the ICU. Actress Seema entered the ICU after quarrelling with the hospital staff. Sukumari chechi then told Seema about her wish to see Lissy. Later, the then Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha arrived at the hospital. She was not a person who usually goes to visit people like that. Sukumari chechi was awarded the Padma Shri on the recommendation of the Tamil Nadu government as well. It is a fact that Kerala had neglected Sukumari chechi," Ashraf added.
