Mahalakshmi Sreenivasan, better known by her screen name Mohini, was one of the most sought after actress in the 90s, both in Tamil and Malayalam industries. Mohini made her debut in Malayalam cinema with Thampi Kannanthanam's film Nadodi, released in 1992. She acted in more than a hundred films in eight years. Mohini is still a familiar face to Malayalam and Tamil audiences. She made her debut as a heroine through the Tamil film ‘Eeramaane Rojave’.

Mohini now opened up about her deep admiration for music director AR Rahman and about her failed marriage plans. In an interview with a Tamil YouTube channel, Mohini revealed the hitherto unknown details. The star also revealed that the news of AR Rahman's conversion to Islam made her very sad.

Mohini:

“During those times, I was deeply in admiration for Rahman. Then came the news of his conversion to Islam. I believe nobody was more dejected than me hearing the news. We were of similar age, and I even planned to talk with my family about marriage. I strongly believe my family would not have objected to it.

Tamil actress Lakshmi used to tease me, asking me to learn how to cook biriyani, one of Rahman’s favourites. I will also not forget one time when Rahman recognised me while coming out of a flight in Malaysia.”

In a recent interview, Mohini talked about how she contemplated suicide several times when affected by a life-shattering disease. After marriage, Mohini shifted to the US and adopted evangelism.
