There is strong criticism over the mute silence observed by a director and actor while a journalist was haranguing actress Gouri G Kishan in a purported body-shaming attempt. The incident took place during the Chennai promotion of the film ‘Others’, in which Gouri is playing the female lead. Now, actor Aditya Madhavan has clarified his silence while the journalist was hurling abusive remarks at the actress. The actor responded by commenting under a post shared by singer Chinmayi.
Aditya Madhavan responded:
“My silence didn’t mean I approve body shaming of anyone. I froze because it caught me off guard, as it is my debut… She didn’t deserve that. No one does. Everyone deserves respect,” he wrote.
Hi to all, My Silence didn’t mean I approve body shaming of anyone. I froze because it caught me off guard, as it is my debut. I wish I’d stepped in sooner. She didn’t deserve that. No one does. Everyone deserves respect, regardless of who we are. I apologise once again.”
Gouri was seemingly perturbed after a vlogger quizzed the actress about her weight. This remark was confronted by Gouri, which resulted in an altercation. The actress also demanded that the journalist apologise. Gouri said that the journalist cared not to ask a single question about her character or film but rather chose to comment on her weight.
Stars including Bhavana, Krithi Shetty, Ahaana Krishna, and Pearlee Maaney have expressed their support for Gouri on social media. 'Others', directed by renowned director Abin Hariharan, is releasing today. The film also stars Malayalam stars Anju Kurian, Hareesh Peradi, and Mala Parvathy in lead roles.
