After handing over the coveted Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Indian President Droupadi Murmu picked out her favourite performances of actor nonpareil Mohanlal. The President highlighted Mohanlal's performance in Karnabharam and Vanaprastham at a grand ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi.
“Everything was very good. I consider this to be the greatest fortune an artist can get. I share that fortune with everyone,” Mohanlal responded after reaching Kochi on Wednesday.
The actor said he would meet his mother first to tell her about the grand achievement. When asked why the Indian President might have chosen the two performances over others, Mohanlal said, “Aren't both classical arts? One is Sanskrit drama. The other is Kathakali, a three-dimensional art. Not many people do that in movies.”
Meanwhile, videos of young content creators from North India decoding how the award landed up on Mohanlal are going viral on social media. These videos are also helping many in North India to know more about one of India’s finest actors.
From the video of a content creator:
“Mohanlal is not a professional singer, but he acts like someone who has studied classical singing. The song from the movie "Chitram" is an example of this. Mohanlal has never learned dance, but see the movie ‘Kamaladalam’ to get wonderstruck. He was not well-versed in Sanskrit, but gave an impossible performance in the 90-minute Karnabharam. He did not study psychology, but psychiatrist Swaraj Mani praised him after seeing his performance in Pavithram,” said a content creator in his video.”
