CHENNAI: Tamil superstar Vijay's film ‘Jana Nayagan’ will not be released on Friday. The producers of the film, KVN Productions, confirmed the postponement news. The Madras High Court will pronounce its verdict on Friday on a petition filed by the producers against the delay in the censor board certificate. The release was postponed in this context.
Meanwhile, the court today witnessed twists that could rival a cinema plot. The argument began with the Censor Board's dramatic revelation in response to the court's question about who had left the film to the revision committee. The film was given a U/A rating on December 22. The Censor Board said that the complainant was one of the five members in the examining committee. It was said that the film had several scenes involving the Indian army, making it impossible to allow a certificate without letting a committee involving defence expert watch the movie.
The Additional Solicitor, appearing for the Central Board of Film Certification, said that it was sufficient to form the committee within 20 days of the decision being sent to the movie to the Revising Committee. The Additional Solicitor said that the court cannot restrain the authority of the chairman.
Producers K.V.N. Productions responded by saying that the film was re-edited with all 27 changes recommended by the Censor Board and argued that it was not ideal to take the differing opinion of one member as a complaint.
