MANGALURU: There are suspicions that there are Malayalis among the dead after the revelation that more than 100 women, including students, were raped, murdered and buried. The incident took place between 1998 and 2014 in Dharmasthala, Karnataka. A special team of the Karnataka Police has started an investigation based on the statement of the former sanitation worker at the Dharmasthala temple.
"The supervisor at the Dharmasthala temple asked me to bury the bodies. When I refused, he beat me brutally. With this, I burned the bodies and buried them," says the former sanitation worker. The bodies that were buried were the bodies of schoolgirls and women who had been raped in Dharmasthala and the surrounding areas.
However, the police have not revealed the name of the person who gave the statement. He gave the police photos and evidence of the burial of the bodies. Police protection has been provided to him and his family. He had left Dharmasthala with his family after quitting his job in 2014. He told the police that he was speaking out about this out of remorse and the desire to get justice for the victims. A female employee of the Dharmasthala temple also gave a statement in this regard.
Meanwhile, skulls and other remains were found during the inspection at Dharmasthala where the bodies were buried. These were presented in the Belthangady court. Further inspections have not been started at the place where the bodies were said to have been buried. The investigation is being led by South Karnataka SP K.A. Arun
Body of Malayali woman found in 1987
Most of the Malayalis who go to Dharmasthala are from Kasaragod. Meanwhile, indications are emerging that there are Malayali girls who went to Dharmasthala and went missing. The body of a woman who went missing in 1987 was found with her hands and feet chopped off. The woman's brother revealed this the other day.
"This is a series of massacres that happened twenty years ago. If the police do not take action, the action committee members will come and take out the bodies. We are ready to go to jail. The statement given by the employee is 100 percent correct." - Jayant (Malayali, Dharmasthala)
