NEW DELHI: 27 airports in the country have been closed due to security reasons a day after Operation Sindoor targeted terror camps in Pakistan. Reports said that airports, including those in Jammu and Kashmir, have been closed till 5.29 am on Saturday, May 10. It is also reported that 430 flights have been cancelled by Indian airlines so far.
The airports closed were Srinagar, Jammu, Leh, Chandigarh, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Bathinda, Halwara, Pathankot, Bhuntar, Shimla, Gaggal, Dharamsala, Kishangarh, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Mundra, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Porbandar, Kandla, Keshod, Bhuj, Gwalior and Hindon. Around 250 flights were cancelled yesterday. Air India said two international flights to Amritsar were diverted to Delhi.
Ten airports in the Jammu and Kashmir region have been closed as a security precaution. Air India, IndiGo and SpiceJet flights to the region have been completely cancelled. The BSF is on high alert along the international border to prevent a retaliatory attack by Pakistan. Various airlines have advised those who have booked flights to these destinations to check their flight status. Pakistani airlines have also cancelled 147 flights. Meantime, the central government said reports that Pakistani army has targeted the Srinagar airport are totally baseless.
Meanwhile, Qatar Airways has temporarily suspended its flight services to Pakistan. This comes after Pakistan closed its airspace following the Pahalgam terror attack. The airline said on social media that it is closely monitoring the situation and that the safety of passengers and crew will continue to be its priority.
