NEW DELHI: Congress has harshly criticized the central government over the IT Rules amendment. Congress Social Media and Digital Platforms Chairperson Supriya Shrinate said in a press conference that social media platforms, media houses and Press Council are against these rules. She said that the government intends to remove all news that may cause inconvenience from Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and WhatsApp.
“There is no judicial supervision or right of appeal as per the new law. The Modi government wants to suppress every unpleasant question that arises from independent digital platforms. The government wants to suppress uncomfortable questions on issues like Adani incident, Chinese invasion, price hike, unemployment, plight of farmers and income inequality. It is strange that the notification says that fake news against the central government will be monitored by a unit of the government. This notification violates the Constitution and freedom of expression. This notification is in violation of the parent law, the IT Act, 2000.”, she said.
