THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: More information surface on the death of the middle-aged woman from Neyyar Dam, who went missing and later found murdered in Tirunelveli. Police said that she was murdered after 11 pm on June 29. Police also said that she was sexually abused. Vipin Raj of Tirunelveli was arrested the other day in the incident.
The 61-year-old woman’s relatives had lodged a missing complaint with the Neyyar Dam police. The murdered woman used to go to the church regularly and usually returns only after a few days. The relatives filed a complaint after the woman did not return even after three weeks. A police investigation conducted found that she had gone to Varkala. However, no further information was received later.
The body was found yesterday by the residents of the area in an empty field in Tirunelveli. On being informed, the police arrived and identified the body as that of the native of Neyyar Dam. The information was later handed over to the Kerala Police. The body will be brought home by this evening after postmortem.
Police said the accused Vipin Raj gave her a lift saying that he would drop her at the bus stand on the fateful day. He then took her to an empty field and raped her. The accused told police that he strangled her to death when she screamed. The accused was arrested in an investigation conducted based on CCTV footage.
