CHANDIGARH: Another term for D Raja as CPI General Secretary. Raja was given a relaxation and was allowed one more term at the party congress, which had tightened the age limit. The CPI leader from Tamil Nadu was the only one who was given a relaxation. D Raja's response is that it was a unanimous decision of the party. K Prakash Babu and P Santosh Kumar from Kerala reached the central secretariat.
State Secretary Binoy Viswam resigned from the central secretariat as he had to focus on Kerala. D Raja took over as the party general secretary after the recently deceased former general secretary Sudhakar Reddy resigned at the 2019 party congress. He continued as the party general secretary in the 2022 Vijayawada session. D Raja was given one more term, although it was expected that he would resign at the Chandigarh session.
D Raja is the first Dalit leader to head the Communist Party. He was born in Chithathoor village in Vellore district of Tamil Nadu to P. Doraisamy and Nayagam. His Delhi-based activities began when he was elected as a member of the CPI National Executive Committee. His performance in Parliament was also notable, as he was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu in 2007 and 2013. D Raja is married to Annie Raja, a Malayali national executive committee member.
