Historic polling in Bihar: 64.66% voter turnout in first phase

PATNA: A record voter turnout was registered in the first phase of the Bihar Assembly election. The polling held today recorded a 64.66% turnout. This is the highest voter turnout in an Assembly election in the state. Voting took place in 121 seats across 18 districts. Begusarai, Samastipur, and Madhepura districts reported the highest polling. The previous highest turnout in an Assembly election was in 2000, with 62.57%. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar thanked all voters and polling officials for their participation.

Meanwhile, in the Lakhisarai constituency, RJD workers allegedly blocked and hurled slippers at the vehicle of Deputy Chief Minister and BJP candidate Vijay Kumar Sinha. RJD and BJP workers clashed at the spot. Following Election Commission instructions, police have registered a case.

In Manjhi Assembly constituency in Saran district, miscreants damaged the windows of CPM MLA and candidate Satyendra Yadav’s car. No one was injured in the incident.
