CHENNAI: Two people have been held for brutally attacking a RPF official and his friend during a search for their lost phone. The arrested are Chandru and Imran, traders of Burma Bazaar. A native of Alappuzha and also head constable of Chennai Central Station and Karthik, AC Mechanic of Thiruvananthapuram Mail were subjected to brutal attack. The incident happened last week and the two are under treatment.

The visuals of the incident were widely circulated on social media. Karthik lost his phone in the train. The RPF officials with the help of a phone tracker app traced it in Burma Bazaar. When they called, one said that he would return if given money. Finally, the RPF officer accompanied Karthik to Burma Bazaar to get the phone back.

However, the person in the shop was not willing to give Karthik's phone. The RPF officer noticed lakhs of rupees in the bag he was carrying. Soon the people there surrounded the two and brutally beat them. The RPF officer sustained injuries on his face, chest and stomach. The two were attacked for entering Burma Bazaar. The video that came out also shows people saying to beat the two to death.

There are allegations that the North Beach Road police were not ready to take action even though both of them filed a complaint. Meantime, locals alleged that illegal transactions are taking place under the guise of business in Burma Bazaar.
