NEW DELHI: The congress has sought a reply from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to US President Donald Trump’s claims of mediation in the ceasefire between India and Pakistan. The opposition came forward with the demand after Modi addressed the nation.
The opposition asked whether India held direct talks with Pakistan. The Prime Minister was silent on Trump's claim. Has India agreed to US mediation? Has India agreed to a neutral site for a dialogue with Pakistan? Will India now give in on US demands for opening Indian markets in autos, agriculture and other areas, asked Congress leader Jairam Ramesh. He also demanded that the Prime Minister hold a meeting with leaders of all political parties immediately.
The Congress demanded that the central government disclose matters related to the ceasefire between India and Pakistan. 'What are the framework and terms of the ceasefire signed with Pakistan? What are the conditions under which India agreed to hold talks with Pakistan as part of the ceasefire agreement?' Congress General Secretary Randeep Surjewala asked through X.
Trump had come out with a Truth social media post praising the leadership of both countries for agreeing to the ceasefire. He also claimed that the US had brokered a ceasefire agreement. Trump also announced that trade between India and Pakistan would be significantly increased.
