Shortage of LPG and fuel in country? Union Minister Rajnath Singh clears air
NEW DELHI: The central government responded to the concerns raised after the Prime Minister's suggestion to regulate the use of fuel and cooking gas in the country. Union Minister Rajnath Singh said that there is currently no shortage of cooking gas and fuel in the country. The minister said that India has 60 days of crude oil, 60 days of natural gas and 45 days of LPG in stock. He also clarified that the Prime Minister's message to the people regarding the West Asian crisis was a caution and nothing more.
Only a precautionary measure was given to avoid a long-term crisis. The situation in the Gulf region is being closely monitored. Rajnath Singh also said in the ministerial committee meeting that the use OF e-vehicles should increase among citizens.
On Sunday, the Prime Minister, in a public meeting held at Hyderabad, requested citizens to control fuel consumption as in the COVID period. He also appealed for greater participation of the people to address global challenges and issues and proposed new economic policies to address the price hikes in the international market. PM Modi appealed to the people to avoid foreign trips and arranging weddings abroad to protect the country's foreign exchange reserves and not to buy gold unless necessary.
To reduce fuel consumption, PM Modi suggested that commuters use metro trains and other public transport systems, and he even encouraged Carpooling. Railways should be prioritised for mobility. The use of electric vehicles should be increased. At last, PM Modi also asked firms to bring back the work-from-home culture to avoid unnecessary travel to the workplace using vehicles.
