Teacher drills student's hand for failing to recite math table

LUCKNOW: A teacher allegedly drilled the hand of a class 5 student forgetting the multiplication table of number 2. The incident took place on Thursday at the Upper Primary Model School in Premnagar in Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh.

The victim is Vivaan, a native of Sisamau. Anuj, a teacher who provides training in different subjects in various schools as part of the skill training program organized under the auspices of the government is accused of behaving extremely cruelly with the child.

The abused child says that the teacher came to the class with a drilling machine. The child was asked to recite the multiplication table of two and when the boy did not answer, the teacher started piercing his hand with a drill. Seeing this, Krishna, another student, pulled the plug of the driller. Then the child was given first-aid treatment and sent home. According to the complaint, the child's class teacher did not inform the school authorities. The information reached the authorities when the child's parents came to know about the incident.

Basic Sanctions Officer (BSA) Surjit Kumar Singh, who is in charge of elementary education, reached the spot and ordered an inquiry after learning about the violence. He informed that the teacher who assaulted the child has been dismissed from the school and further action will be taken.
