‘Krishna, Guruvayoorappa’; Suresh Gopi takes oath in Malayalam

NEW DELHI: Union Minister Suresh Gopi took the oath in the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha. He came chanting Lord Krishna’s name before entering the dais to take oath. He came chanting ‘Krishna Guruvayoorappa’.


Suresh Gopi solemnly took the oath in the name of God in Malayalam. After taking the oath, he returned to his seat after looking at the ruling party and the opposition. Suresh Gopi is the only BJP member to win the Lok Sabha polls from Kerala. He is the Minister of State for Tourism and Petroleum in the third Modi government.


The swearing-in ceremony of the MPs in the Lok Sabha is progressing. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the first to take the oath. Second Rajnath Singh and third Amit Shah took the oath. The swearing-in of MPs will take place after the swearing-in of union ministers is completed. When the Prime Minister came to take oath, opposition MPs protested by holding up a small version of the Constitution.


Opposition members also created a ruckus when the panel of aides to the pro-tem speaker was read. The opposition created a commotion by shouting 'NEET, NEET' during the swearing-in of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Pro-tem Speaker announced accepting the resignation of Rahul Gandhi from Wayanad constituency. The oath-taking of MPs from Kerala will begin at 4 pm. In the first session, the swearing-in of MPs will take place today and tomorrow.
