THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A complaint has been filed against a private hospital after a woman alleged that a piece of cloth was left inside her abdomen during surgery. The woman stepped forward levelling serious allegations against the CSI Mission Hospital in Kazhakkoottam. Sheeba Pramod of Menamkulam filed a complaint with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the Kazhakkoottam police.
The woman came to the hospital on December 2 due to severe abdominal pain. She was asked to take a scan and the doctor advised an emergency appendectomy surgery. The surgery was performed on December 3. She was discharged from the hospital after ten days but her wound was not completely healed. One part was festered. However, since the doctor who treated Sheeba at the Kazhakoottam hospital was on leave, she went to Govindans, a private hospital in the capital city, to get the wound dressed. An examination conducted found thread in the wound.
The doctors there advised her to go to the same hospital where the surgery was performed. The piece of cloth was later removed through a surgery. However, the hospital authorities explain that it is not clear from where the piece of cloth entered the wound.
