KAYAMKULAM: More details have come out regarding the incident where a father was hacked to death by his son. The deceased was Natarajan (62) of Kandalloor, and he was killed by his son Navajith Natarajan (30). Navajith also attacked his mother Sindhu (49). She suffered serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mavelikkara.

According to reports, Navajith committed the crime after his parents questioned his drug use. The family was financially well-off. The attack happened at a time when Navajith’s wife was about to be admitted to the hospital for childbirth.

The incident took place at around 8:30 pm on Sunday. Hearing the cries of the elderly couple, neighbours rushed to the house. They found the accused standing outside with a blood-stained machete. Inside the house, Natarajan and his wife were lying in pools of blood. The neighbours first rushed them to a private hospital in Mavelikkara and later to another one in Parumala, but Natarajan could not be saved. He had multiple deep cuts, including on his face.

As locals gathered, the accused went to the upper floor of the house. The police arrived and overpowered him with difficulty. They tied him up with a rope to restrain him. Fearing a mob attack, the police took him out through the back door. The accused is a lawyer at the Mavelikkara court. Natarajan is survived by two other children: Dr. Nidhin and Nidhi.
