THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Police have warned that a new scam is being carried out through WhatsApp in the name of a leading wind turbine manufacturing company. The scam is being carried out in the name of a company called Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy Limited. The police said that the scam involves inviting people to join a WhatsApp group in the name of the company and encouraging them to add more people like the Moneychain model.

The scam begins with a message from your friends or family inviting you to join a WhatsApp group. By clicking on the link you receive and registering on the website, you become a member of a WhatsApp group. Those who join in this way are asked to install a fake app that claims to be from a leading wind turbine manufacturing company to invest in the company and make a profit. Once the app is installed, they are encouraged to invest in the company's products by promising high profits.

Investors are initially given small amounts in the name of profit share to gain their trust. Moreover, the fraud is spread in the Moneychain model by convincing them that a certain percentage of additional profit can be given by adding more people as investors.

Investors come to know that they have been scammed when they demand their money back but are not paid anything citing various reasons. The public should not transact in such job offers or online investments that promise excessive profits. Such fraudsters have no connection with the real company. The police have informed that social media advertisements, links and apps related to such fake investments should be completely ignored.

If you notice or become a victim of online financial crimes, you can immediately contact the toll-free number 1930 or file a complaint through the website https://cybercrime.gov.in, the police said in a press release.
