KOCHI: A major twist has emerged in the case in which 40 sovereigns of gold and ₹8.5 lakh were robbed from a house in Aluva in broad daylight. It has been revealed that the theft was orchestrated by the house owner's wife. The incident occurred at the house of Ibrahimkutty in Aluva. According to the police, Thrissur native Anwar Ustad, who had established a close relationship with Ibrahimkutty's wife Laila, convinced her to carry out the theft by threatening to harm the family. Anwar has been arrested by the police.

Laila handed over the money and gold to Ustad without her husband's knowledge. The incident took place last Monday. As per the pre-planned arrangement, the theft was staged during a time when no one was home. To make it appear convincing as a robbery, Laila ransacked the space, opening drawers and cupboards, and then scattered belongings around the floor.

Only Ibrahimkutty and Laila lived in the house. Ibrahimkutty, who runs a business buying and selling materials from demolished buildings, was away on work at the time. The investigation was conducted by a police team led by DYSP TR Rajesh.
