Mom arrested for burning child with spatula for wetting shorts

ALAPPUZHA: A woman has been arrested in the incident of burning her four and a half-year-old son with a spatula for defecating in his shorts. The woman arrested is a native of Kandalloor in Kayamkulam. She was arrested following the statement of her mother-in-law.

The child burnt was taken to the hospital by his own mother. The woman told the authorities of the hospital that he accidentally sat on a hot chapathi stone. However, the child told them that his mother burnt him. The child suffered burns on his back and legs. The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has also intervened in the incident.

The child's father serves in the army. Police said that there were some issues between the woman and her mother-in-law. It is suspected whether this led to her mother-n-law’s statement. Police said that some clarification is needed in it. Therefore, a decision was taken to conduct a detailed investigation into the matter.
