THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The crime branch report has taken a new turn in the fake theft case in Peroorkada. The crime branch found that the chain was not stolen from the house in Peroorkada and that the police had fabricated a false story to trap the maid R Bindu (39).
The house owner, Omana Daniel, who has memory loss had kept the chain stated to be stolen, under the sofa of her house. The report also said that Omana had herself found the chain. She had informed the police about this. The crime branch also found that the claim of the police that the chain was found from the garbage was wrong. The report sought action against Peroorkada SHO Sivakumar and Omana Daniel.
Omana usually keeps her chain under the bed. However, on the day of the incident, Omana kept the chain under the sofa. She then filed a complaint with the police for her missing chain. The family later found the chain from the house. However, to justify taking Bindu into custody and questioning her for a whole day, the police fabricated a false story that the chain was found from the garbage.
Omana Daniel of Ambalamukku filed a complaint with the Peroorkada police on April 23, alleging theft. The police took Bindu, the maid of the house, into custody on the same day and interrogated her at the station for a whole night. She was illegally detained without even being allowed to inform her family members until 12 the next day. The Pathanamthitta District Crime Branch is investigating the incident following the order of the Human Rights Commission.
