PALAKKAD: More information surface in the case of throwing a two-and a-half- year-old girl Devendu into a well at Kottukalkonam in Balaramapuram. The police had earlier arrested her mother Sreethu in the case. Her brother Harikumar killed the child by throwing her into the well. He had earlier stated that Sreethu knew everything. She had denied this, but the truth came to light when Harikumar was subjected to a lie detector test. Reports said Sreethu is not cooperating with the interrogation.
Devendu was found dead on January 30 in 2025. Although the police were able to identify Harikumar as the killer within hours, many mysteries remained in the case.
Sreethu and her husband Sreejith were not in good terms and so she along with her children were staying in the house where Harikumar lived. DNA tests have revealed that Sreejith is not the father of Devendu.
Harikumar had confessed to the crime. Harikumar told police that he had an illegal relationship with his sister Sreethu and threw the child into the well as she was an obstacle to their relationship. Even while staying in adjacent rooms, the two used to chat and video call on WhatsApp constantly.
On the day the crime was committed, Harikumar had forced Sreethu to have sex. He asked her to come to his room via WhatsApp. According to that, Sreethu reached the room but went back as the child cried. This enraged Harikumar and he threw her into the well.
Sreethu was earlier arrested in a financial fraud case. She was released on bail recently. Some of her fellow prisoners had helped her in getting bail.
