CHARUMMOODU: Two men have been sentenced to 75 years in prison and fined Rs 4,75,000 each for sexually assaulting a minor girl in Alappuzha. The convicted persons are Palamel native Ananthu (23) and Nooranad native Amal Kumar (21). The verdict was pronounced by Chengannur Fast Track Special Judge R Suresh Kumar. The case was registered by the Nooranad police.
Meanwhile, a youth was arrested for sexually assaulting a minor girl whom he met through Instagram. The accused, Aravind, a native of Mundakkal, was arrested by Pooyappally police based on a complaint filed by the girl’s parents.
Aravind first met the girl a few months ago during a wedding function. Later, he became friends with her through Instagram and continued to message her regularly. He allegedly pretended to be in love with the girl, promised to marry her, and took her to various places where he sexually assaulted her. After repeatedly abusing the girl, the accused reportedly entered into a relationship with another girl.
The girl’s parents noticed changes in her behaviour and, after questioning her, learned about the abuse. They then filed a complaint with the Pooyappally police. After recording the girl’s statement, the police registered a case and identified the accused as Aravind, also known as Chandu, a native of Mundakkal Papanasam. The police have registered a case against the accused under the POCSO Act. Aravind was produced before the court and remanded.
