KOLLAM: A youth who previously worked as the melsanthi in a temple has been arrested for robbing the same temple ten years later. The arrested is Sajith Namboothiri of Vettikkavala in Kottarakkara. He stole the money from the offering boxes of Vadamon Sreekrishna Swamy Temple in Anchal.
Sajith Namboothiri had worked as a melsanthi in this temple for a while in 2015. He knew everything about the temple then. It is believed that he did this with the intention of committing theft. He later went to work in another temple from there.
He returned to Vadamon Sree Krishna Swamy temple to commit theft three months ago. He arrived at night unnoticed, broke open two offering boxes and fled with the money. He committed the theft like expert thieves without leaving any evidence.
Although he escaped without being seen by anyone, the CCTV footage captured him. The police got the CCTV footage of the theft and things became easier for them. When Sajith, who was arrested by the Kottarakkara police in a similar case, was questioned in detail, he also confessed to committing the theft at the Vadamon temple.
The accused was brought to the temple the other day to collect evidence. The police are trying to find out if he has committed theft in more temples.
