CHENNAI: A native of Assam has been arrested for attacking a Malayali female Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE). The incident happened at Perambur railway station in Chennai. Sarada Narayana, a Malayali from Tripunithura, was attacked when she was checking the tickets. He attacked her when she questioned him for travelling without a ticket. The police have arrested Abdul Rehman (27) of Karimganj in Assam.

Sarada said that he attacked him following a dispute over travelling without a ticket. After turning violent, he pushed her, scratched her face and then tore her clothes. He also attacked other two TTEs who rushed to her help. Passengers and auto drivers, who were in the station subdued the attacker. The Perambur railway police arrived and took him into custody. Sarada sustained injuries on her face and body. She later sought treatment in the hospital.

The Assam native told police that he reached Chennai in search of a job. The police suspect that he was under the influence of drugs at the time of the attack. Such attacks on officials questioning for travelling without tickets are rampant. Following the attack on a female employee, TTEs protested at Perambur, Egmore, Chennai Beach and Tambaram stations demanding job security for officials checking tickets.
