WAYANAD: Revenue Minister K Rajan said traffic issues in Thamarassery Ghat Road will be resolved as early as possible. He also said that there are technical issues that make it impossible for the heavy vehicles to pass through the churam. The minister told media that more confirmations can be made only if modern equipment is brought and inspected.

'Small vehicles have started passing through Thamarassery Ghat road. Traffic has restored. Traffic was allowed because the rain has subsided. Heavy vehicles should go via Kuttiady and Nadukani churam. A meeting was held with the district collectors of Wayanad and Kozhikode and high-ranking officials of the disaster management authority last evening. An examination was conducted. It is a reality that such problems at Thamarassery Pass will affect the Onam season. But due to this problem, there are some technical issues that make it impossible to allow vehicles to pass.

There is a warning in connection with the disaster. The epicenter of the landslide at the pass at the ninth bend is 80 feet above. The landslide occurred with a loud noise yesterday afternoon. There is also a water channel there. Therefore, the expert committee has warned that heavy vehicles cannot be passed through it. To check these things, equipment like electrical resistivity and GPR should be used. Small vehicles have been allowed to pass through since yesterday. An inspection has also been conducted regarding the landslide that occurred in Kuttiady. Instructions have been given to fix some problems on the road in Kuttyadi. Traffic on the Thamarassery pass will be normalized only after ensuring safety,' the minister said.

Meantime, small vehicles are being allowed to pass through the Thamarassery pass in a single lane. Boulders, soil and trees were flowing from 80 feet above. Another accident occurred at the site of the landslide on Tuesday. The collapsed soil was removed on Tuesday night and traffic was restored by 9 pm on Wednesday. But the rain intensified by 8 am yesterday. Vehicles were stopped as stones and rocks started falling on the road. There is a risk of danger due to the formation of watercourses in the pass.
