Accepting bribe from convicts; Jail chief too involved, reveals former DIG

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former jail DIG P Ajaya Kumar said the jail chief has close ties with DIG M K Vinod Kumar, who was suspended for accepting bribes from convicts. He alleged that jail chief Balram Kumar Upadhyay has also got a share of the corruption money.

Ajaya Kumar said Balram Kumar Upadhyay behaved angrily towards him for lodging a complaint against Vinod Kumar. Vinod Kumar was suspended after the vigilance found that he had accepted bribes worth lakhs from prisoners, including for granting parole. It was after this Ajaya Kumar revealed that the jail chief was also involved in the incident.

Ajaya Kumar alleged that there was an agreement between the two officials behind granting parole to the accused in the T P Chandrasekharan murder case and that the reports of the jail superintendent and the police were tampered with for this purpose.
