KOZHIKODE: The accused have confessed to the crime in the case of theft of 26 sovereign gold from MT Vasudevan Nair's house on Palace Road, Nadakavu. In the morning, the accused were brought home and evidence was collected. The accused are Santha, a resident of Karuvissery and her cousin Prakashan, who is the cook of the house. The accused gave a statement to the police that they sold the stolen gold in various shops in Kozhikode. The arrest of the accused was immediately recorded.
Jewelery worth Rs 15 lakh kept in the cupboard was lost. On the complaint of MT's wife Saraswati, Nadakavu police registered a case and started investigation. Three necklaces, a bangle, two pairs of earrings, a pair of diamond earrings, an emerald locket and another locket were stolen.
The complaint states that the theft occurred on September 29 and 30 when MT and his wife Saraswati were not at home. It was only when the cupboard was checked that the jewelery was missing. The complaint was delayed because it was thought that they misplaced it. There was no sign of the cupboard being broken into. The police concluded that the theft may have been done by taking the key kept near the cupboard and opening it. The investigation is being conducted by a special squad led by Nadakavu CI Prajeesh under the supervision of Town ACP Ashraf Thengilakandiyil.
