Alert issued for two districts; heavy rainfall to lash across state in coming hours

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala is all set to brace heavy rainfall, with an orange alert already issued in two districts for Wednesday. Kannur and Kasaragod districts are under orange alert, while a yellow alert was issued for Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts today.

Isolated heavy rain is expected. The Central Meteorological Department defines heavy rain as a situation where 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain is expected in 24 hours.

The Indian Meteorological Department informed that strong winds with a speed of 40 to 50 kmph are likely in isolated places in Kerala today. Authorities have advised against fishing along the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts today. There is a possibility of strong winds with a speed of 40 to 50 kmph accompanied by bad weather along the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts.

A yellow alert was issued in Idukki, Malappuram, Kannur and Kasaragod districts tomorrow and for Idukki, Malappuram, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts on Friday.
