THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A youth, who was knocked down by a motorbike while crossing the Kazhakkootam-Karode bypass, died after an ambulance ran over him. The deceased has been identified as Muttathara native Ananthu (23), son of Murali and Babitha. The accident took place opposite the Indian Bank branch in Muttathara at around 10.30 pm on Saturday.

Ananthu, who entered the bypass road from the service road, was entering the service road on the opposite side when he was knocked down by a motorbike. Soon after he fell on the road, an ambulance, which was coming from behind, ran over him. Ananthu died on the spot. The bike rider, who caused the accident, did not stop the vehicle. The ambulance was carrying a patient from a private hospital in Ambalathara to the Medical College Hospital. Although the ambulance driver stopped the vehicle following the accident, the locals allowed him to go to Medical College after seeing the poor health condition of the patient inside the vehicle. Ananthu was taken to the Medical College in another ambulance. The driver of the ambulance that was involved in the accident later appeared at the Fort police station.

The Fort police registered a case and conducted an inquest. Ananthu's body was handed over to his family after post-mortem. The police are trying to find the motorbike that hit Ananthu.
