Clash in Thrissur Corporation Council over seating arrangement, female councilor injured

THRISSUR: A verbal argument over the opposition Left councillors not being allowed to sit together in the Thrissur Corporation escalated into a clash. The clash was between the ruling and opposition councillors. A ruling woman councillor and the mayor's PA were injured. Councillor Mercy Aji and PA EV Sunil Raj have been admitted to the hospital.

The opposition alleges that the mayor refused to allow LDF members to sit together despite repeated requests. An angry Left councilor Anees Mohammed rushed towards the mayor's seat while she was responding to the public debate. The ruling councillors rushed to stop him. There was a brawl when the LDF councillors came in. With this, the mayor returned to the chamber. Later, the LDF members stormed the chamber and sat on the floor, shouting slogans. The police arrived and forcibly removed the councilors. Mayor Niji Justin alleged that the opposition was trying to attack her.
