THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The UDF will start working early for the assembly elections following the huge victory in the local body elections. The UDF will meet tomorrow to discuss seat sharing. The leaders have decided to make the seat sharing and selection of candidates early.
Reports say the UDF is preparing to face the elections by dividing the constituencies into three. The move is to classify the constituencies as seats that are sure to be won, seats that can be captured if worked hard, and seats that are less likely to be won. In the local body elections, the UDF got 5.36 percent more votes than the LDF. This is according to the official figures of the State Election Commission.
Meantime, the oath-taking ceremony of those elected to local bodies in the state will be held today. The oath-taking will be held in the village, block, district panchayats, municipalities and corporations. The authorities informed that all the necessary preparations have been completed. Collectors will be in charge in the corporations and district panchayats and the respective election officers in other places. The term of the present administrative committee ended yesterday. That is why it was decided to hold the oath-taking ceremony today even though it is Sunday.
Since the terms of the eight local bodies in Malappuram are not ending, the oath-taking will be held on December 22 and thereafter. The senior-most member will be the first to take the oath followed by other members. The first meeting of the governing body will be held after the oath-taking is completed.
