KANNUR: An elderly man was found dead inside the train's toilet. The incident occurred when the Chennai-Mangalore mail reached Payyannur station at around 10 am this morning. The elderly woman, who appeared to be around 60 years old, has not been identified. The body was found in the toilet in the general compartment at the rear of the train. As the toilet did not open after a long time, the passengers became suspicious and immediately informed the guard when the train reached Pazhayangadi station. The guard informed the Palakkad Railway Control Office.

An ambulance and fire brigade were already ready at Payyannur station as per the instructions from the Palakkad office. As soon as the train reached Payyannur at 10 am, fire brigade officials broke down the door of the toilet and entered. Unfortunately, the elderly man was already dead by then. The body has been shifted to the Pariyaram Medical College morgue after inquest proceedings. The police have registered a case and started an investigation.
