KOZHIKODE: The family of Deepak, who committed suicide, has reacted to the delay in arresting Shimjitha Mustafa. The family had earlier criticised the police. The family alleged that the police tried to help Shimjitha and asked if the law is not the same for men and women.

The family asked why Shimjitha was taken in a private vehicle instead of a police vehicle and why the police were late in arresting her. Deepak's family accused that the evidence could be destroyed due to the delay in the arrest and asked why so much protection is being provided to an accused. Shimjitha was arrested on the complaint of Deepak's parents. The woman was arrested from her relative's house in Vadakara.

Deepak, a native of Govindapuram, Kozhikode, committed suicide after Shimjitha shared a video on social media alleging that he had sexually assaulted her on a bus. The police had also issued a lookout notice for Shimjitha Mustafa. Shimjitha was arrested on the sixth day after the incident. Shimjitha has currently been remanded for 14 days. The woman will be shifted to Manjeri jail.
