THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Dr Manmohan Singh, the former Prime Minister who passed away on Thursday, was one of the prominent figures who shared a warm relationship with Kerala Kaumudi. On February 12, 2011, he inaugurated the year-long centenary celebrations of Kerala Kaumudi.
During his three-day visit to Kerala, despite a busy schedule, Dr Singh enthusiastically participated in the centenary celebration event of Kerala Kaumudi. At the ceremony organized at Kanakakunnu Palace at 10 a.m., he delivered a profound speech while inaugurating the centenary celebration. A part of his speech was as follows:
"I am delighted to be a part of this event, which is being held as part of Kerala Kaumudi’s centenary celebrations. Founded in 1911 as a journal and transformed into a daily in 1940, this publication has a history to be proud of. Many distinguished men and women have been associated with it. The founder, CV Kunhiraman, was not only a talented journalist but also a prominent literary figure and revolutionary thinker." He also mentioned the contributions of K Sukumaran. He then shared his thoughts on the field of journalism and expressed his happiness about the launch of the Kerala Kaumudi Group's TV channel.
On that occasion, Dr Manmohan Singh released the first volume of the history of Kerala Kaumudi by handing it over to the then Defence Minister AK Antony. He also launched the title of the Kaumudi Channel at the same event. It was received by the late MS Ravi, who was the Managing Director of Kerala Kaumudi at the time and later became the Chief Editor. SNDP Yogam, General Secretary Vellappally Natesan, the then Kerala Governor RS Gavai, Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan, Union Minister for Civil Aviation Vayalar Ravi, Leader of Opposition Oommen Chandy, Swami Prakashananda, President of the Sree Narayana Dharma Sangham Trust, Kerala Kaumudi's current Chief Editor Deepu Ravi, and Managing Director Anju Srinivasan were also present at the event.
