ED seizes assets worth Rs 67 crore of banned outfit Popular Front; SDPI property in Thiruvananthapuram among assets attached

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Enforcement Directorate seized assets worth Rs 67.03 crore belonging to the banned organisation Popular Front. The assets include SDPI land in Thiruvananthapuram, Education and Culture Trust in Pandalam, Islamic Centre Trust in Wayanad, Periyar Valley Charitable Trust in Aluva, and Valluvanadan Trust in Palakkad. So far, assets worth Rs 129 crore have been seized by the Popular Front of India.

The Central Government banned the activities of the Popular Front of India for 5 years in 2022. The ban was imposed by the Union Home Ministry after considering the threat to national security and law and order.

Earlier, the ED conducted searches at the offices and houses of the Popular Front leaders. The NIA had also conducted raids in Kerala. Cases were registered and arrests were made against state leaders and other workers of the party. 106 people were arrested in the nationwide raids conducted on September 22, 2022. 19 people were arrested from Kerala.
