ALAPPUZHA: For the first time in four and a half years, a poster of a government program included the image of former minister and CPM veteran G Sudhakaran. The notice issued says that Sudharakan will be part of the inauguration of the Naluchira bridge in Thottappally on Sunday. The bridge will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at a ceremony presided over by Minister Mohammed Riyas.
G. Sudhakaran, who was Ambalapuzha MLA and Public Works Minister during the first Pinarayi government, took the initiative to prepare a plan for the construction of the Thottappally Naluchira bridge and allocated Rs 50 crore.
However, the last four years saw Sudhakaran getting sidelined by the party to the extent of not inviting him to inauguration events, which he was formerly part of. It was just days back that Sudhakaran fumed at the cyber-attacks targeting him by leftists.
In the last few years, Sudhakaran morphed into a staunch critic of the party, which invited brickbats from leadership and workers. Despite facing the wrath of leftists on cyberspace, the former minister made his opinions acerbic, even letting analysts guess of an imminent exit from CPM.
To alleviate tensions, Sudhakaran was recently visited by CPM General Secretary MA Baby, who had come to attend the Punnapra-Vayalar annual week celebration. District Secretary R. Nassar and Central Committee Member CS Sujatha invited him to the award ceremony named after VS Achuthanandan in Mankombu. However, Sudhakaran did not attend.
G. Sudhakaran responded to journalists that it was irrelevant whether he would participate in the inauguration ceremony of the Naluchira Bridge. The Chief Minister will inaugurate the bridge. Sudhakaran said he was unaware of other details.
