KUMALY: A government employee was attacked by CPM workers for turning up for duty on the day of general strike. Vishnu Radhakrishnan of Adimaly Vadakkekkara sustained injuries in the attack by CPM goons. The incident happened at the Mullaperiyar New Dam Investigation Sub-Division Office in Kumaly. Vishnu is a clerk in this office. Vishnu, who got the job last December, came to work today despite the strike being on probation.

As soon as the office opened, local CPM workers arrived and demanded to close the office. However, Vishnu informed the protestors that it was difficult for him to join them since he was on probation. There were eight people including Vishnu in the office at that time. The CPM workers who had left at that time later returned with more workers, surrounded Vishnu in a group and beat him.

They beat Vishnu in front of the female employees. The injured Vishnu sought treatment at the primary health center in Kumaly. Vishnu filed a complaint with the Kumaly police.

Reports said that there were widespread incidents of violence during the general strike similar to a hartal in the state. The center that supplies medicines to hospitals was also closed by the protestors under threat. There are also complaints that people, including KSRTC employees, were attacked.
