Heavy rain warning: Thunderstorms and 50km/h winds forecasted for Kerala
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a significant increase in rainfall across Kerala starting tomorrow. Residents should brace for isolated heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning through May 16. Additionally, gusty winds with speeds ranging from 30 to 50 km/h are expected across the state and Mahe.
District-Wise Alerts: The IMD has placed several districts under a Yellow Alert over the next few days to signal the need for caution:
- Today: Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Kannur, and Kasaragod.
- Tomorrow: Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod.
- Friday: Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad.
- Saturday: Thrissur, Palakkad, and Malappuram.
Monsoon and Atmospheric Conditions: The intensification of rain is attributed to a low-pressure system over the Southwest Bay of Bengal, which has now evolved into a well-marked low-pressure area. Meteorologists indicate that conditions are becoming favorable for the Southwest Monsoon to arrive in the South Bay of Bengal and the Andaman & Nicobar region by May 16.
Authorities advise residents to stay vigilant against potential lightning strikes and localized waterlogging during this period.
