Heavy rains predicted in state today; various districts alerted

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains have been predicted in the state today. Rain warning has been issued in eleven districts. Orange alert has been sounded in Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod and yellow alert in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram.

There is a possibility of moderate rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram and Kozhikode with gusty winds of less than 40 kmph during the next three hours. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that there is a possibility of light rain at isolated places in other districts.

Cyclone over East Central Bay of Bengal will intensify into low pressure today. In the background of this, the rain will be more intense in the northern districts. Yellow alert has been announced in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod tomorrow.
