THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Home Department directed that the services of bouncers should be avoided at government public events in Kerala. The Home Department Secretary has directed that the responsibility of maintaining law and order and the security of participants at public events organised by the government should not be entrusted to bouncers.
Bouncers are private employees who wear T-shirts emblazoned with the word 'Bouncer' to control the crowd and provide security to celebrities. It was found that the excessive authority displayed by bouncers in the pretext of providing security to celebrities is causing inconvenience to the police officers on duty and is hindering coordination between various departments. It is in this context that the Home Secretary ordered that the responsibility for law and order at such events organised by the government be completely handed over to the police.
Bouncers are also deployed in temples to control crowds. The high court came out against the bouncers following a series of untoward incidents that led to a melee in Kerala.
