Journalist Mathew A. Thomas passes away; former bureau chief of the New Indian Express

KOLLAM: Veteran journalist Mathew A Thomas (60) passed away. He was the former bureau chief of the New Indian Express, Thiruvananthapuram. In a career spanning decades, Mathew has reported on a variety of subjects, including politics, culture and the environment.

Mathew A Thomas started his journalism career with Malayala Manorama. In 2000, Mathew joined The New Indian Express as a Kottayam correspondent and later served as the Thiruvananthapuram bureau chief from 2011 to 2014. He has also served as a senior political correspondent.

Mathew had gone to his wife's house in Mavelikkara with his family the other day. On Friday night, Mathew A. Thomas alone returned to his house in Punalur, Kollam. This morning, when Mathew did not pick up his phone despite his wife's call, the neighbours came and checked to find Mathew dead on a chair in the hall. It is believed that the cause of death was a heart attack. The body was shifted to Punalur Taluk Hospital after the inquest. The funeral will be held later. Wife: Joby Mathew.
