THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Yellow alert is back in various districts today following a heavy rainfall warning in Kerala from the Indian Meteorological Department.
A yellow alert has been issued for Palakkad, Malappuram and Wayanad districts on May 6 and for Pathanamthitta, Idukki and Palakkad districts on May 7. The possibility of isolated heavy rain is predicted.
Heavy rainfall is defined as rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.
In addition to thunderstorms today, strong winds gusting to 40 to 50 kilometres per hour are also expected. Thunderstorms and strong winds gusting to 30 to 40 kilometres per hour are also possible on May 4 and 5. IMD has clarified that there is no restriction on fishing along the Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep coasts today.
At the first sign of lightning, move inside a safe building immediately. Remaining in open areas increases the risk of being struck by lightning.
Keep windows and doors closed during periods of high winds and lightning. Stay away from doors and windows. Stay inside the building and try to avoid touching the walls or floor as much as possible.
