THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Vishnu, the main accused in the road accident in Kilimanoor that took away the lives of a couple, was arrested from his hideout in Neyyattinkara last night. Vishnu was taken into custody by a special squad led by Attingal DySP.

A huge protest took place outside the Kilimanoor police station over the police action of releasing Vishnu on bail shortly after he was taken into custody. It was the locals who caught Vishnu and handed him over to the police after he tried to flee after the accident. The police only imposed minor charges on Vishnu and released him on station bail. After this, the accused went absconding.

The Thar jeep, driven by an intoxicated Vishnu and his friends, hit the couple at Kilimanoor on the 4th of January. Meanwhile, three people, including the SHO, were suspended for failing to investigate the accident. Kilimanoor CI B. Jayan, Sub-Inspector Arun, and Grade SI Salim were suspended pending investigation.

It was alleged that the police officials tried to save the youngster. It was also rumoured that a police official was inside the car at the time of the accident. Meanwhile, a case was also registered against those who protested against the police. A case was registered against 59 people, including a panchayat member.
