KSEB staff arrested for cutting fuse wires, switching off RMUs; search on to nab absconding accused

KOZHIKODE: A person has been arrested in connection with the incident where the fuse wires of transformers in the Kallayi section of KSEB were cut and six Ring Main Units (RMUs) were switched off, plunging the entire area into darkness.

The accused, V Rajish Kumar, was arrested by the Pantheerankavu police. The second accused, Subair, a contract worker of KSEB, is absconding. He has been suspended from service.

On July 2, around midnight, the fuse wires of 13 transformers in the Kallayi and Pantheerankavu areas were cut, and six RMUs were switched off, causing a blackout in the area. CCTV footage confirmed the activities of the accused. The police say that the motive behind the incident was the rage over warning Rajish, a former vehicle contractor.

The KSEB staff who came to repair the damage found that the fuse wires had been cut and the RMUs had been switched off. They reported the incident to the KSEB, which then filed a complaint with the Pantheerankavu police station. The executive engineer, assistant executive engineer, and assistant engineer visited the spot and conducted a detailed inspection. The investigation into the incident is progressing. The accused have been charged with criminal conspiracy and destruction of public property. The KSEB has also initiated legal action to recover the loss caused to the consumers and the board due to the incident.
