KALPETTA: A landslide occurred in Karimattom Hill near the Mundakkai- Chooralmala area which was hit by a landslide on July 30th, 2024. The landslide occurred in the inner forest on May 28 following heavy rains. Even though it was an area that required extreme caution, the government agencies got information about the landslide only after two days.

Karimattom Hill is just four kilometers from Mundakkai. The debris of the landslide flowed from here, a forest area that shares the border with Malappuram district, to Aranappuzha. Seeing this, forest guards from the Meppadi Range reached the spot on May 30 and inspected it.

A major disaster was averted as the landslide occurred far above the human-inhibited area. 18 lives were lost in the 1984 landslide in Karimattom Hill.
