PATHANAMTHITTA: A Local holiday was declared for three taluks on Monday (November 3) in connection with the Parumala Church Perunnal. Local holidays were declared in Thiruvalla in Pathanamthitta, Mavelikkara and Chengannur taluks in Alappuzha. The District Collector declared holidays for all government offices and educational institutions in these taluks. However, the holiday does not apply to pre-scheduled public examinations.

The Parumala Church is celebrating the 123rd death anniversary of His Holiness Geevarghese Mar Gregorios, also known as Parumala Thirumeni. The flag was hoisted on October 26. Big celebrations will be held on Monday, the final day of the event. A special police control room has been set up in connection with the festival. The Health Department has prepared ambulance services and a special medical team.
