Man wrongfully jailed due to police error, released on fourth day after family intervention

arrest

PONNANI: The police arrested the man. The court jailed him. However, convinced of the truth by the intervention of relatives, the court released the young man on the fourth day. Aalungal Abu Bakar (38), a native of Veliyangode, was caught by the police.

The incident is as follows: The Tirur family court issued an arrest warrant for Vadakkepurath Abu Bakar on a complaint filed by his wife Aishabi for non-payment of expenses. He is abroad. Ponnani police arrested his neighbor Aalungal Abubakar without investigating thoroughly. He is also in a quarrel with his wife and has a case. At first, Abubakar assumed that the arrest was part of this.

On Monday night, the police called Abubakar to the station and informed him that there was an arrest warrant. After checking the warrant, Abubakar said that the case was not registered in his family name. But the police did not listen. Both of them have the same father's name and mother's family name. Abubakar was locked up, being told not to lie. He was produced in Tirur family court on Tuesday morning. The court imposed a fine of four lakhs. He was remanded to Tavanur Central Jail after being informed that he could not pay the amount. Then the relatives conducted an investigation and informed the court yesterday that the police had made a mistake. Aalungal Abubakar is about to approach the court against the police.
